Also, eigentlich lese ich das Gratismagazin "Friday" nur wegen der amüsanten Kolumne von Miss Friday. Die aktuelle Ausgabe machte mich aber auf den Comic "The Beats" aufmerksam. In diesem Graphic Novel werden die Lebensläufe der Haupt- aber auch der Nebenfiguren der Beatniks vorgestellt. Ein Muss für alle Liebhaber dieser Literaturhelden! Merci, Friday! Well I actually only ever read the free magazine "Friday" because of its amusing column by Miss Friday. But the latest issue called my attention to the comic "The Beats". In this graphic novel you get introduced to the biographies of the protagonists, but also the "supporting actors" of the Beatniks. A must-read for all the lovers of these heroes of literature! The film "Les amours imaginaires" by the talented Mister Xavier Dolan is just the right thing to defy the dreariness of January. The dreamy images, the beautiful cast and the juicy plot manage to beat the melancholia of winter in the blink of an eye. Wishing you a marvellous day.

Reclaim the street

"Exit through the Gift Shop" rangiert auf meiner Top 10 Filmliste 2010 ganz weit oben. Die Doku überzeugt nicht nur durch ihren spannend-amüsanten Inhalt, sondern weckt durch die pure Kreativität der Street Art-Künstler die Lust, sich selber gestalterisch auszutoben. Ach, diese coolen Hunde! Also, schaut euch den Film unbedingt selber an- natürlich im Kino. Wünsch euch einen schönen Tag. And- the streets are us!

"Exit through the Gift Shop" is quite far up in my Top 10 film list 2010. The documentary doesn't only satisfy with an enthralling-amusing content, but also inspires you, through the sheer creativity of the street artists, to be creative yourself. Oh, these kool kats! Even though I haven't got time to distract myself from important uni matters with such wonderful negligibilities like blogging, I couldn't help myself today. Modeschmuck ist total in Ordnung. Meistens jedenfalls. Manchmal gelüstet es einem aber nach etwas mehr Attitüde, nach etwas mehr Klasse. Die zeitlose Eleganz eines schlichten Diamantrings, wie Beispielsweise von diesem Etsyverkäufer, wäre da genau das richtige. Nur leider fehlt mir momentan- und wahrscheinlich auch noch für eine geraume Weile- das nötige Kleingeld für solch teure Bijoux. Wünsch euch trotzdem ein schönes Wochenende!

 

Costume jewellery is totally okay. Most of the times, anyway. But sometimes you're overcome by desire for something with more attitude, more class. The timeless elegance of a simple diamond ring, like, for instance, by this Etsy seller, would be just the right thing. Though at the moment- and probably for a long time- I don't have the cash for such expensive bijoux. Have a lovely weekend nevertheless!

Nur noch 2 Wochen bis Weihnachten. Man sollte sich also langsam einmal Gedanken über die Geschenke machen. Obwohl, ich persönlich stehe eigentlich auf dieses in letzter Minute in die Geschäfte rennen. Folgende zwei Dinge sind mir beim Stöbern durchs Netz äusserst positiv aufgefallen. Nr. 1: Super schicke Kopfhörer für den musikaffinen Freund, Kumpel, Bruder oder für einen selber. Nr. 2: einen schlichte Jutetütte mit charmantem Aufdruck für die Anglizistikstudentin und alle  Freundinnen von Jane Austen (oder Bridget Jones). Wünsch euch einen schönen Abend! (P.S. Sie tragen im  Clip  eigentlich auch noch hübsche Kopfhörer, ob man die wohl kaufen kann?!).

Only two weeks left to Christmas. It is about time to think about presents. Though, personally, I'm the kind of rushing-through-the-shops-at-the-last-minute type. The following two things have caught my eye while browsing the net. No. 1: Super-chic headphones for your music-savvy boyfriend, mate, brother or for yourself. No. 2: a simple tote bag with charming print for the student of Anglicism and all the Jane Austen friends (or Bridget Jones). Wishing you a lovely evening! (P.S. Die momentanen Minustemperaturen sind ein herrlicher Vorwand, um das eine oder andere gestrickte Oberteil zu erwerben. Man will sich ja nicht erkälten. Wie es der Zufall so will, entdeckte ich  bei Topshop gleich ein paar schicke Stücke und auch ein, zwei wirklich sehr hübsche Kleider.  Oh, immer diese Qual der Wahl! The minus-temperatures right now are a fabulous excuse to purchase one or two knitted tops. We don't want to get a cold, do we? As luck would have it I discovered a few chic pieces and also one or two very pretty dresses at Topshop. Oh, to be spoilt for choice! Have a good start to the new week!

Oh, joy!

Wie bereits erwähnt, mir gefällt die Vorweihnachtszeit mit all ihren dazugehörigen Aktivitäten. So liess ich es mir auch dieses Jahr nicht nehmen, einen Türkranz zu binden und die Räume zu schmücken.  Dabei veranstaltete ich auf, neben und unter dem Küchentisch ein heilloses Durcheinander. (Wie man unschwer erkennt, hat sich mein Hirschfanatismus noch nicht gelegt...) Wünsch euch einen schönen Tag! P.S. Das ist nun das letzte grottige Weihnachtslied für dieses Jahr, versprochen!

As I've mentioned before, I like the pre-Christmas period with all its activities. So this year I also insisted on making an X-Mas door wreath and decorating the rooms. While doing that I made a complete mess on, beside and underneath the kitchen table. (As you can easily recognize my deer-fanatism is still in full bloom...) Wishing you a lovely day! P.S. Ich muss gestehen, dieses Jahr hat mich ein mittelschweres Weihnachtsfieber gepackt. Kein Wunder, bei diesem Schnee! Seit Tagen läuft mir nun schon "Jinglebells-Rock" nach und ich habe bereits eine ansehnliche Sammlung von "Guetzli" gebacken. Die letzte Ladung (Mandelplätzchen) buk ich leicht verkatert- keine so gute Idee, wenn`s ums filigrane Verzieren geht... Tant pis! Sie schmecken trotzdem gut. Wünsch euch eine tolle Adventszeit!

I must admit, this year I've been taken over by some medium-heavy Christmas Fever. No wonder, with this snow! For days and days I can't get "Jinglebells-Rock" out of my head and I've already baked a respectable collection of cookies. The last batch (almond cookies) I baked slightly hungover- not such a good idea when it comes to delicate decoration... So what! They still taste nice. Wishing you a lovely Advent Season!
