Zappen / Zapping

So schön es auch immer ist, wieder zu hause zu sein, befällt mich süsse Sehnsucht nach dem hektischen Grossstadtleben in London. Ach, es gäbe ja noch so viele Ecken und Shops und Clubs zu entdecken! Aber, ich werde sicher bald wieder mal einen Kurzurlaub in die Thamesstadt machen. Um mir die Zeit bis dahin zu verschönern, schaue ich dafür gerne Britisches Fernsehen. Besonders gespannt bin ich auf die Reality Show "Running in Heels" in der junge Frauen um eine Stelle bei Marie Claire kämpfen. Bald sollte auch eine Britische Ausgabe erscheinen. Wilmaa sei dank, sollte ich diese Sendung dann auch schauen können. Für solche, die mal ihr Modewissen testen wollen, empfehle ich den Fashion Quiz (http://www.marieclaire.com/fashion/trends/articles/fashion-designer-quiz). Die Sendung Grand Designs, welche wagemutige Häuslebauer auf ihrem Weg zu extravaganten Villen begleiten finde ich auch sehr sehenswert. Alle Sendungen unter dem Channel 4 Youtube Portal. / * As much as it's always good to be back home I do yearn for the hectic big city life in London. Awww, there would have been so many places, shops and clubs still to be discovered! But, soon I will be going for another short trip to Thames Town, that's for sure. Until then, I enjoy watching British TV. I'm especially awaiting the Reality Show called "Running in Heels", in which young women fight for a job at Marie Claire. Soon there should be a British version. Thanks to Wilmaa I should be able to watch it. For those of you who'd like to test their fashion knowledge, I can recommend the Fashion Quiz (http://www.marieclaire.com/fashion/trends/articles/fasion-designer-quiz). The show "Grand Designs", which accompanies venturous home builders on their way to extravagant mansions is also well worth seeing. All tv shows can be found on Youtube, Channel 4. Wenn ich gerade bei diesem Thema bin. Ich glaube, ich werde nicht umhin kommen, den "Dokumentarfilm" September Issue über Anna Wintour zu schauen. / *Talking about this subject. I don't think I can get around watching the "documentary" September Issue, about Anna Wintour. P.S. Hyde Park (Quelle: flickr, Ceshe) Um mich von der Überladung Beatlesinformationen und der Touristenhorden zu erholen, suchte ich mir im Hydepark ein hübsches Plätzchen, um in aller Ruhe Sushi zu essen. An der Tubestation Piccadilly Circus hat es einen wirklich empfehlenswerten Laden Japan Center (http://www.japancentre.com/), der von Sushi, über kitschig-süssen Lunchboxen zu Joghurt und Magazinen, alles verkauft, was das japanische Herz begehrt. Später schaute ich im kleinen, feinen Pure Groove Club (http://www.puregroove.co.uk/) vorbei, um das Konzert von Athlete zu sehen, gratis. So indie! To recover from the overload of information about The Beatles and from the hordes of tourists, I found myself a cute little space in Hyde Park to eat sushi. By the tube station Picadilly Circus there's a really fabulous shop called Japan Centre, which sells everything a Japanese heart desires: from sushi, to kitschy-cute lunch boxes, to yoghurts and magazines(http://www.japancentre.com/). Later on, I visited a very intimate Athlete gig in the small but exquisite Pure Groove Club (http://www.puregroove.co.uk/), for free. So indie!

Anstatt im Meer bade ich heute lieber in der Wanne. (Alle Bilder von Missprint) Neben dem Start des Herbstsemesters, ist die Renovation meines Schlafzimmers ein fester Fixpunkt im Monat September. Daher ist es nicht weiter erstaunlich, dass ich überall auf der Suche nach Inspiration bin. Kürzlich entdeckte ich den Onlineshop des britischen Designerteams Yvonne und Rebecca Drury von MissPrints (http://www.missprint.co.uk/index.htm) und verliebte mich auf der Stelle in diese filigrane, verspielte Tapete (siehe Bild oben). Daneben verkaufen sie auch Wandsticker und einige Vintagemöbel. *Alongside the start of the autumn term at uni, the renovation of my bedroom is a fixed date in the month of September. Map of Cmyru (Wales) (All pictures from flickr) Market in Cardiff Ich verbrachte heute den ersten Tag in der wallisischen Haupstadt Cardiff und fühle mich bereits wie zu hause. Das Stadtzentrum ist klein, aber sehr charmant. Ich entdeckte bereits viele kleine Geschäfte, in denen sich es lohnen würde, nach kleinem Schnickschnack zu suchen! Nur muss ich meinen Einkaufsdrang etwas drosseln, da ich ja später noch ein paar Tage in London verbringen werde.

Stilinspiration: chic und nicht ganz so teuer / Style Inspiration: chic and not that expensive

Alle Bilder von booking.com Ich bin ja jemand, die sich ohne zu übertreiben, stundenlang durch die verschiedenen Hotelbewertungsseiten klickt, um ein einigermassen schön eingerichtetes und auch bezahlbares Zimmer zu finden. Es liegt wohl auf der Hand, dass dies für die Britische Hauptstadt ein eher nervenaufreibendes Unternehmen war. Stichwort: Eklatanter Unterschied zwischen dem Preis-Leistungsverhältnis. Ich verstehe ja, dass die Hotelbesitzer sich nicht alle paar Jahre eine Renovation bzw. eine Neumöblierung der Zimmer leisten können. Aber, so nach 20 Jahren sollte man wirklich die Einrichtung wieder etwas an den Zeitgeist anpassen. Vor allem für London, das reihenweise junge, stilbewusste Touristen anzieht. Mit ein paar Accessoires, einem unaufälligen Teppich und Vorhängen, dazu einen nicht zu schrillen Bettanzug würde sich der Webauftritt vieler Hotels drastisch verbessern. Schliesslich fand ich dann doch noch ein Hotel, dass mir optisch gefällt und auch noch einigermassen im Budget liegt. Das Hotel 43 (http://www.hotel43and39suites.com/) liegt in der Nähe vom Hyde Park und ist nur einen Steinwurf entfernt von Notting Hill und Paddington. Manchmal lohnt es sich wirklich, im letzten Moment zu buchen. Needless to say it was some nervewrecking business, doing this for the British Capital. I.e: Striking differences when it comes to cost-performance-ratios. Don't get me wrong though: I do understand that hotel owners can't afford to renovate / refurbish their rooms every few years. But, after 20 years, one should adapt their interior design to the zeitgeist. Especially in London, a city attracting hords of young, stylish tourists. A few accessories, understated carpets and curtains and some not-so-in-your-face duvets would drastically improve the web image of any hotel. At the end of the day, I managed to find a hotel that I visually like and that doesn't burden my budget too much. The Hotel 43 (http://www.hotel43and39suites.com/) is close to Hyde Park and is only a stone's throw away from Notting Hill and Paddington. Sometimes it's worthwhile to wait till the last minute before booking anything. Oh, wie ich sie als Kind geliebt habe, diese Daumenkinos. Natürlich bastelte ich mir auch selber welche. Kürzlich entdeckte ich sie wieder und ich bin immer noch total begeistert von ihnen. Daumen hoch für die Daumenkinos! Als Langhaarträgerin braucht man gerade im Sommer verschiedene Ideen für Hochsteckfrisuren, welche den Nacken frei lassen. Zur Zeit trage ich besonders gern geflochtene Strähnen um den Kopf. Das hat so etwas verspielt-retromässiges, was zum Beispiel die Strenge eines Blazers gut herab setzt.
