Seit neusten-sprich, seit ich davon auf Styleseeking Zurich vernommen habe-will ich unbedingt einmal nach Baden. Der Grund? Das zuckersüsse und herrlich kitschige Café Frau Meise. Die emsige Frau Meise verkauft zudem auch rare Kleidermarken in ihrem kleinen Laden. Dies sollte wohl reichen, für einen kleinen Abstecher in die Aarestadt. * Since very recently- to be precise since I heard about it on Styleseeking Zurich- I'd desperately like to go to Baden. The reason? The sweet-as-a-button and exquisitely-kitschy café Frau Meise. The diligent Frau Meise in addition sells rare clothes labels in her little shop. That should be enough for a little getaway to the city by the Aare-River.

Wer kennt die Situation nicht. Vom stundenlangen herum schlendern und einkaufen in einer fremden Stadt ist man hundemüde und will nichts weiter, als ein hübsches Café finden, um dort wieder etwas zu Kräften zu kommen. Leider sieht man weit und breit nur Starbucksfilialen. In solchen Momenten, wünscht man sich einen lokalen Freund, der einen an der Hand nimmt und den Weg weist. Nun, Spotted by Locals bietet zwar keine Reiseführer in Fleisch und Blut an, dafür verraten Einheimische die Lieblingsplätze ihrer Stadt. Ich finde das noch eine recht praktische Idee. /

* Who doesn`t know this situation. From strolling around for hours and shopping in a foreign city you're dog-tired and all you want is finding a pretty café to recharge your batteries. Unfortunately all you see are Starbucks'. In such moments you wish for a local friend, who takes you by the hand and shows you the way. Well, Spotted by Locals doesn't offer you these tourist guides in flesh and blood, but what you will find on there is the locals revealing their favourite spots in their city. I think this is quite a handy idea.

Ich war ja kürzlich in der Ikea und kaufte mit, unter anderem eine Etagere. So eine Etagere verleiht auch der klitzekleinsten, düstersten Wohnung zumindest eine Ahnung von "Grandezza" . Auf ihr muss man ja nicht zwingend das ganze Pâtisserieangebot des bevorzugten Bäckers stapeln, sondern kann hübsche Obst-und Früchtestillleben in Szene setzen. Ich bin auf jeden Fall total begeistert von diesem altmodischen Teil. Webrecherchen zufolge, kann man sich auch ganz einfach eine selber basteln- Stichwort Alice im Wunderland. Wünsch einen schönen Tag, meine Damen. / * Recently, as you know, I went to Ikea and got myself, amongst other things, a Three-Tier-Server. Such a Three-Tier-Server can even give the tiniest, gloomiest flat a touch of "grand air". There's no need to pile on the whole range of patisserie from your favourite baker - why not create your own pretty still life exhibition with fruits? However, I'm totally enthusiastic about this old-fashioned piece. According to web researches you can even make one yourself- think Alice In Wonderland. Have a nice day, ladies.

Eskapismus / Escapism

Ich finde ja, dass es nichts besseres für die Psychohygiene gibt, als sich ab und zu eine kleine Wochenendreise zu gönnen. Zwei Nächte nicht im eigenen Bett schlafen, drei Tage durch fremde Strassen schlendern, Schnickschnack kaufen und sich königlich über selbst entdeckte herzige Geschäfte, verträumte Cafés und verrauchte Spelunken zu freuen. Gut, im Fall des Hotel Palafitte in Neuenburg wird es einem sehr schwer fallen, das Zimmer überhaupt zu verlassen, schläft man doch dort direkt über dem See und hat eine eigene, kleine Terrasse mit bestem Panorama. Dank MySwitzerland kostet eine Übernachtung im fünf Sterne Hotel auch nur etwas mehr als 200 Franken- eine Champagnerflasche inklusive. Sehr verführerisch. /

* I personally think, when it comes to psycho hygiene, there's nothing that can beat a little trip you treat yourself to. Not sleeping in your own bed for two nights, strolling down foreign alleys for three days, buying knick-knack and being happy as larry about the discovery of cute shops, dreamy cafés and smokey honky-tonks. Well, in the case of the Hotel Palafitte in Neuchâtel (Switzerland) it will be very hard to leave the room, seeing as you'll be sleeping just above the lake, and you'll have your own little patio with the best view. Thanks to MySwitzerland one night in the Five-Star-Hotel will only cost you a bit more than 200 Swiss Francs- a bottle of bubbly included. Very tempting.

Heinzelmännchen / Brownies

Manchmal wäre es doch nett, wenn man über ein persönliches Heer von Heinzelmännchen verfügen würde, die einem alles abnehmen, für das man keine Zeit oder kein Talent hat. Nun, für universitäre Belange würde ich von ihrem Gebrauch dringend abraten (Stichwort Plagiat. Stichwort Rauswurf). Wenn es sich aber um die Realisation von kreativen Geistesblitzen handelt, bietet Ponoko einfache und preiswerte Abhilfe, quasi als Mietheinzelmännchen. Auf der Plattform kann man mit wenigen Klicks seine Designidee zu Papier bringen, welche die Macher von Ponoko dann umsetzen und dem Kunden fix fertig zurück senden. Wahnsinn nicht? /

* Sometimes it would be nice to have a whole personal army of brownies, who do all the things we don't have the time or talent for. Well, for universitarian issues I would absolutely disadvise the usage of them (key word plagiarism. key word expulsion). When it comes to the realisation of creative sudden inspirations, Ponoko offers simple and inexpensive help, as brownie-to-rent, so to speak. On the platform you can put your design idea to paper with few clicks, and the makers of Ponoko will put it into reality and send it back to the client completed. Unbelievable, isn't it?

Buy Babylon, buy!

Yeahy. Fräulein F. gönnt sich heute mal wieder einen Abstecher in den Franz Carl Weber Laden für Erwachsene. Oder anders formuliert: Ein Synonym für Einkaufswahnsinn und Materialschlacht, mit vier Buchstaben. Genau, IKEA. Vor allem diese PS -Serie hat ihr Interesse geweckt. Etwas Sorgen macht ihr nur die Tatsache, dass es heute Samstag ist (oh mein Gott!) Nichts desto trotz- auf nach Babylon. /

* Yeahy. Miss F. will treat herself to a detour to the Toys R Us for adults today. Or, in other words: the synonym for retail madness and battle of material, with four letters. That's it, IKEA. Especially this PS-Series has tickled her fancy. The only point of worry for her is the fact that it's a saturday today (oh my god!). Nevertheless - off to Babylon.

Gebrauchskunst / Commercial Art

Das französische Designerduo Atypik nennt Dada als grösste Inspirationsquelle für ihre Gebrauchskunst. Etwas gaga- dieses infame Wortspiel sei mir verziehen- beziehungsweise herrlich überraschend und amusant verändern sie ordinäre Gegenstände in Augenfänger. Schmunzeln ist erlaubt. Wie wär`s mit einem fluoreszierenden Heiligenschein zum an die Wand kleben, eine Postkarte, auf der man ein vierblättriges Kleeblatt suchen kann oder den Mond, zum auf den Boden legen? /

* The French design duo Atypik refers to Dada as their biggest source of inspiration for their commercial art. A little bit gaga- please excuse this scurrilous play on word- or exquisitely surprising and amusing how they transform ordinary objects into eye catchers. Smiling strictly permitted. How about a fluorescent halo to stick on your wall, a postcard on which you can look for a four-leaved clover, or the moon, to lay on the floor?

Junge Wilde / Youth Untamed

Ein Film über Freundschaft, Liebe, Wahnsinn und Leidenschaften. Zwei Versionen derselben Geschichte, eine mit "Happy End", eine ohne sind geschickt in einander verschachtelt. Im Mittelpunkt der Handlung stehen zwei Freunde, die Schriftsteller werden wollen. "Reprise" ist unbedingt sehenswert und das Prädikat Sundance Filmfestival fehlt auch nicht. / * A film about friendship, love, madness and passions. Two versions of the same story, one with "Happy End", one without, are cleverly intertwined into one another. The centre of the plot are two friends, who both want to become writers. "Reprise" is an absolute must-see and the Sundance Filmfestival-rating isn't missing either.

Selbsthilfe / Self Help

Um mir den Montag etwas zu versüssen, werde ich mir heute das charmante Audrey Biographie und Selbsthilfebuch "Was würde Audrey tun?" schenken. Man gönnt sich ja sonst nichts, nicht? Für Risiken und Nebenwirkungen bitte diesen Bericht lesen. Augenschmaus / Eye Candy

Grenzt es bereits an Grössenwahn, wenn man sich als Teilzeitservierdüse überlegt, Kunst zu kaufen? Ich finde, dafür hat man nie zu wenig Geld. Vorallem, wenn man unverhofft über diese geniale Künstlerin stolpert, deren Photographien bereits für ein paar Hundert Euro zu haben sind. Sie arbeitet meist mit abgelaufenem Filmmaterial und dadurch bekommen ihre Photos ihren charmanten-verträumten, poetischen Look. Also, Fräulein F. fängt jetzt mal an zu sparen, denn ein, zwei oder dreier ihrer Bilder will sie kaufen, bevor sie unbezahlbar werden. Wünsch euch allen ein schönes Wochenende. /

* Is it already on the edge of megalomania, if a part time waitress like myself considers to buy art? I think, one has never too little money for that. Especially if unexpectedly, you stumble upon this genius artist, whose photographies are already available for a couple of hundred Euros. She mostly works with expired film material and that's how her works gets that certain charming-dreamy, poetic look. So, Miss F. will start saving now, because she wants to buy one, two or three of these pictures, before they become unaffordable. Have a nice weekend, everyone.

Warhol für Arme / Warhol for the poor

Wenn die Tage wieder kürzer werden und sich die Sonne nur noch sporadisch am Himmel zeigt, wird es Zeit für gemütliche Stunden vor dem Laptop. Sehr empfehlenswert ist dann diese Seite, auf der man schnöden Digitalfötelis in Warholimitate und Zeichnungen umwandeln kann. Also, liebe Freundinnen der schönen Künste, doppelklicken und sich kreativ austoben. /* When the days become shorter and shorter and the sun makes only sporadic appearances in the sky, then it's time for cosy hours on your laptop. Zuckersüss / Sweet as Candy

Die Artikel Pipstudio sind einfach nur zuckersüss und herrlich spleenig. So ungefähr stelle ich mir die Ausstattung von Alice im Wunderland vor. Damit sie gleich ihren ganzen Hausstand einkaufen kann, bietet Pip von Tassen, über Taschen, zu Bettwäsche und Photoalben so ziemlich alles an. Nebenbei lernt man auch noch ein paar Brocken Holländisch. A propos herzerwärmend : dieser Clip würde mir glaubs auch am "Doomsday" ein zartes Lächeln auf die Lippen zaubern! Einfach herzallerliebst. * The products from Pipstudio (http://www.pipstudio.com/) are just sweet as candy and so exquisitely quirky. This is how I imagine the interior of Alice In Wonderland. In order to be able to buy her whole household, Pip offers nearly everything from mugs, to bags, to bed linen and photo albums. By the by you'll also pick up some chunks of Dutch. Talking about heartwarming: I think this clip would even bring a smile to my face on "Doomsday"! Simply lovelicious. Even though the song is by Chris Brown. Ironic or what?

Der Sammler / The Collector

Dieser Film ist eine emotionale Achterbahn. Selten habe ich so gelacht, selten so geweint, wie bei "Everything is illuminated". Er ist unbedingt sehenswert & rangiert in meiner Top 100 Filmliste ganz weit oben. Also, unbedingt (wieder mal) schauen! Auch das gleichnamige Buch kann ich nur wärmstens empfehlen. / * This film is an emotional rollercoaster. Rarely I have laughed so much, rarely cried so much as when I watched "Everything is illuminated". It is totally worth watching & has a definite place high up in my Top 100 Film List. So, you have to watch this (again)! I can also recommend the book with the same title very much.

Hohler Zahn / Hollow Tooth

"Es war einmal ein Mann, der hatte einen hohlen Zahn, in dem Zahn lag ein Kästchen, in dem Kästchen lag ein Zettel auf dem stand: Es war einmal ein Mann..."

Als kleines Kind faszinierten mich diese in einander verschachtelten Figuren kolossal. Man schraubt sie auf und schwupps, kommt eine neue Figur zum vorschein. Einfach kostlich, fand ich zu mindest damals. Heute gefallen mir die Matrjoschkas einfach als farbenfroher Schnickschnack auf dem Sideboard. Und unter uns gesagt, als Dekorationsobjekt eignen sie sich auch viel besser, als die Buddhastatuen. Die sind doch so 2000. / * "There used to be a man who had a hollow tooth, in this tooth, there was a little box, in this little box there was a note on which it said: There used to be a man who had a hollow tooth..."

When I was a child, I used to be hugely fascinated by these nested-into-one-another figures. You unscrew them and bam, a new figure appears. Simply delicious, I used to think, at least back then. Today I just like the "Matrjoschkas" as colourful knick-knack on the sideboard. And, said between you and I, they are much more suited as decoration object than the buddha statues. Aren't those just so 2000.

Stöberkiste / Rummage Box

Bild: Dawanda, Verkäufer:Berlinillustrated Neben Etsy, ist Dawanda (http://de.dawanda.com) eine meiner Lieblingsstöberseiten. Nun gibt es auch noch eine Schweizer Version namens Guzuu (http://www.guzuu.com/). Langsam werden diese Seiten wiklich zu einem gefährlichen Zeitfresser. Denn, wie bereits beim amerikanischen Vorbild, muss man sich auch bei den anderen zwei durch megabites unbrauchbarer Scheusslichkeiten klicken, um dann hin und wieder ein wahres Schmuckstück zu finden. In diesem Sinn, Waidmannsheil & ein schönes Wochenende! /

* Beside Etsy, Dawanda (http://de.dawanda.com) is one of my favourite rummage sites. Now there's also a Swiss version called Guzuu (http://www.guzuu.com/). These sites are more and more becoming dangerous time-wasters. Because, just like with the American role model, also with these two you have to click yourself through mega bites of useless abominations to then every now and then find a true treasure. In that sense, good hunting & a nice weekend! Apropos, selbstgebastelt: Irgendwie gefällt mir das Video noch. /
